Hats, hats, and more hats!

Until recently, I'd never thought of myself as a "hat person," per say--in fact, it was only just a few weeks ago when I lost my hat virginity to a fine-looking fella of the fedora variety that I found serendipitously at my local Topshop. Your typical, fedora-style hat, black in color with felt so soft and smooth: it was love at first sight. Despite the initial awkwardness that comes with doing something foreign, it wasn't long before I grew to love my hat and adore it so much that even to this day, I feel a slight sigh of disappointment when it finally comes time to take it off.

Ever since my first encounter, I've been completely crazy about hats. and it seems like I'm not the only one. I've been spotting them more and more lately, both on and off the runways (see above). If you're still not convinced, here are a few reasons why you should consider jumping on the bandwagon:

  1. Hats are essentially magic. Add one to even the most boring of outfits and you will instantly appear cool and stylish.
  2. They make great disguises for undergoing undercover operations or avoiding awkward run-ins with angry ex-boyfriends or chatty next-door neighbors.
  3. Hats are your best friends on bad hair days, bad face days, and those too few and far between days on which you'd really rather hide under a rock.
  4. If your ego is in need of a boost, you can always evoke the"celebrity-in-hiding" look, using yourself as bait to send paparazzi charging towards you, only to discover you are certainly not Behati Prinsloo, Alexa Chung, nor are you Beyonce--although the similarities are indeed uncanny!
  5. Lastly, hats are great because of their power to balance out other wide parts of your body and/or clothing items that needlessly command attention, i.e.: the hoolah hoop. I mean, has anyone tried hoolah hooping with a hat on? I bet it looks good.

Till next time,
xx

  1. I've been trying to find a fedora hat that is made out synthetic felt. So far I can only find wool felt. Any suggestions?

    1. Unfortunately, there's not much out there in terms of vegan hats. The only company I could find makes hats for men: http://www.bravegentleman.com/hats/black-sheep.html

Perhaps you could go with a hat by Stella McCartney? She claims her wool comes from her own farm and none of the sheep are harmed during the shearing process.

Not exactly fedora style, but might work: http://www.farfetch.com/shopping/women/stella-mccartney-wool-hat-item-10216519.aspx

  2. I found this blog when searching vegan hats on google. I find it extremely disheartening and offensive that you claim to be a vegan bog yet support the wool industry which puts sentient beings through needless cruelty and endless suffering all for one of these silly hats! I've provided you with a link below which shines the light on the wool industry,
I hope it helps you understand my outrage at this post under the pretext of being vegan.
